Today people are still being arrested and given records for a plant that is now legal in 11 states and 33 states for medicinal use as of June 2020. People that are detained in states where it is illegal are sometimes thrown in jail, fined, and given a record. It's almost as if it's their goal is to humiliate people for getting caught with a herb that grows on Mother Earth, naturally. When people are arrested for possession, they are not eligible for federal funding like other citizens, they are stripped of social safety net, they are not given boots, only laces. People shouldn't be punished because they smoke something that is natural and of the earth.
Who are we as mortal men who piss-yellow to tell someone they can't fish or they can't hunt? There are far more hunting accident deaths; then, there are people who have died from smoking marijuana. Still, we have that right to get out into nature, climb trees and hunt for our food if we wish to do so, that same freedom of nature should be extended to those who like to enjoy nature by lighting it up and inhaling into their lungs. There have been a total of 0 deaths caused by marijuana use. Not one, there have been deaths that have involved marijuana, deals that have gone bad, robberies could have been prevented if people could report crimes without the fear of arrest. We can improve police-citizen relations by fully legalizing cannabis in all 50 states. We can tackle systemic racism by embracing marijuana legalization.
According to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Black people are almost 4 times more likely to be arrested for marijuana possession in comparison to white people even though the usage rate is similar according to their analysis. Furthermore, the ACLU found that in some states, the rates for black people arrested climbed even higher 6, 8, and almost 10 times more likely to be incarcerated in comparison to white people. In two states, Kentucky and Montana, the ACLU found rates as high as 9 times more likely for black people to be arrested for marijuana possession.

Legalizing marijuana in a time like this could ensure Trump a second term in office. We must make it loud and clear to all of our elected officials via petitions, organizing, talking with family and friends, writing your state legislators. American adults want to legalize weed, we also need to ensure that if Joe Biden is by chance elected that the office of the presidency is there to serve the American people. I would recommend sending your state legislators youtube links of before and after videos of people that have benefited from marijuana like the one below:
Working across party lines. One thing both sides of the political spectrum are going to have to do is work together. If weed is going to become fully legal in America, once we have it fully legalized, we will run into issues if we don't tackle them head-on. We can bring jobs to everyone who has been arrested for possession crimes; in 2015, precisely one year after Colorado legalized weed statewide. As a result, they created 18,000 full-time jobs and $2.4 billion in economic growth in the state. The legalization of marijuana is the policy cure for massive unemployment at a time when unemployment levels in the high double digits.
Canadian Scientists are saying there is evidence to support that cannabis can treat COVID-19. The finding in this research was: The results stated: hemp extracts high in CBD may help block proteins that provide a "gateway" for COVID-19 to enter host cells. This research mostly found that these CBD strains could work to help work as a therapy to prevent and stop the spread of the Covid-19 Virus.
We can have economic growth, criminal justice reform, alternative medicine. We cannot afford to let marijuana legalization hang at the waist side. Call your state legislator, look for their numbers with the resources provided below. Email and write to your state legislators. Remember, they are public servants. They work for you, the taxpayer!
